With a lot of work and determination...

Chelsea Werner,  a young lady with Down syndrome, has wowed people all over the globe with her abilities as a gymnast.  Check out this article discussing the 10 years that she has put into gymnastics and the pay-offs. I know I have looked at my son with Down syndrome and thought that gymnastics most certainly should be in his future (his feet are his arm rests in his car seat)...This article gives me even more confidence!

This 13 year old girl with Down syndrome is very impressive and in the video (linked below) they discuss where she started and how gymnastics helped her in several areas of development.  I have talked to other families with children with Down syndrome who are involved with the our gymnastics center and they have also been very pleased with their child's progress in that sport!  Check it out!

Great article about three young boys with Down syndrome who are involved in a new program for kids with DS in Scotland that will be led by professional soccer players.  This reminds me of the Jensen-Schmidt Tennis Academy, a tennis camp specifically for kids with Down syndrome (they have a camp in DC).  I can't wait for Auggie to be old enough to go!  Check out their website - they have a great video about their camp.

I'll be sure to add this to the resouces page!

Free Young Athlete Kit from the Special Olympics - Maryland

I found this while I was compiling information from the website and it is pretty awesome!  I put in an application yesterday so I will certainly post if/when I receive the kit.  Auggie is a little young, but perhaps his brothers' "instruction" will help him to get the hang of it.....

I think it is fantastic that the Special Olympics is helping to facilitate athletics and support families before the minimum age to start the Special Olympics!

Here is the link to the Young Athletes Play Kit: http://www.somd.org/component/content/article/3-home/202.html

Once I get the kit, it would be neat to get the kiddos together to see what they could all do together!
